Building Workforce Capability: Three-Day Data Literacy Training Strengthens Local Sector
The Mount Isa Regional Jobs Committee (RJC), together with our delivery partners Ronan Analytics and Yup Yup Labs, hosted a three-day Data Literacy Training program to strengthen workforce planning across the Health & Social Assistance sector.
Representatives from key service providers—including health, aged care, disability, mental health and youth services—came together to unpack workforce challenges, explore survey design and build confidence in data use.
Participants gained practical skills in:
Understanding workforce supply and demand trends
Designing and refining local workforce surveys
Using national and regional data sources for local decision-making
Applying data to strengthen reporting, evaluation and funding submissions
The training was highly collaborative, with participants sharing insights from across the sector. A major outcome was improved capability and confidence to collect, analyse, and apply workforce data—laying the foundation for stronger service delivery, smarter training responses, and more job opportunities in our region.
What’s Next:
Refining the draft Workforce Needs Assessment Survey based on input from the training
Official survey launch with Health & Social Assistance employers and providers in the coming weeks
Ongoing sector collaboration to ensure the survey results directly inform workforce strategies, training programs, and funding advocacy
The Mount Isa RJC thanks all participants and partners for contributing to this important step in building a data-informed future for our region’s workforce.
